Recording software

I was wondering if there's any computer software that you can use to record stuff. I've been searching and searching but cant find anything. I'd prefer something free but would deal with a small fee.

what do you mean by record stuff? Record music?

If you mean record phone conversations, i use Goldwave when doing interviews.

friend of mine said Sound Forge is good for just recording with a mic for like vocals...
