It's ONLY new births on New Years Day via the local TV station(s). What they do is hound, I mean stalk, I meeeaaaan...:p - check hospitals to see if someone is due ON that day on NY's Eve. The monitoring gets intense the closer it gets to midnight of course. And when they find multiple births they toggle between they arrival times and whomever one second to whatever after the bewitching hour gets loads of stuff like year of diaper(s) and/or service, formula/food and Gerber goodies, and Toy R Us jumps in... just way loads of stuff. The hospital gives stuff and gets some lil notoriety for the moment as well, rahrahrah. Then the other babies just get announced. I think that's about it or very close. Now this is in MD. I do not know what other states do. Actually, I think DC does it as well. I do not know if they have had 2 or more at the exact same time. I do recall there was a race between two moms one year who were very close in arrival times. I think it was mere seconds at that.

As said, I am usually too toasted to even care. It gets headlines in the paper too. As you can see it's a kinda big deal here.

If you lived in/near a part of the globe which was so eloquently plastered on (OverDrive via MTV) AKA, BKA, CKA... Bodymore Murderland (really known as Baltimore, Maryland) AND supposedly has the highest murder rate more than NY (and we are waaay smaller), a baby's birth on any day would be a breathe of damn good fresh air I tell ya. I'd love to hear more about life's arrival than those who are departing it by whatever means unecessary, sorry.

And yes, that does unfortunately come later but last longer than toe mins depending on the events surrounding.... (sighs...)
