Building an "All in one" Computer

Right.. so i have nealy 2.000 pounds to spend on building an "all in one" computer, DNS, Web hosting, FTP, ect... wich are the best components to use?

i was thinking on the line of:

4 - SATA 400gb hdd`s
2 - 100gb IDE hdd`s
2 - Intel dual core 2 processors
1 - top the range pci Raid controler
2 - 512mb pci express G-cards
2 - 1gb DDR ram

and thats as far as i got..

any suggestions?

Davey, do you have a website that you are going to do? And are you into AMD processors vs Intel? I am because I find less crashing going on with them. On the DDR RAM - are you doing 2 1 GIG? Can you do more?? Are you leaving room for expansion? Explain what your numbers in front of your parts mean. You'll help me understand loads. Thanks and great luck on buidling what appears to be a HUUUGE system. 2,000 pounds in the UK is a lot of change. SMILES!!

Thats gonna be a pretty intense machine... Ya gonna host a bunch of websites of your own or you gonna sell space off? You're gonna want a massive pipe going out to the real world if you want to go anywhere placing enough load on the server for you to need that much stuff!!

i am currently hosting 10/12 websites on a dedicated server from Fasthost, .. and i am into AMD v.s Intel but only used intel, with the ram it will be 1 DDR2 2Gig stick, and leaving space for upgrade later..

Reply to Justin. yea hopfuly hosting about 5/10 thousand and sell a few 10gig ftp accounts, and the internet im using is T3+ i think so there shouldnt be a problem there.

Its gonna be a mighty Machine 4 sho!

what's an opteron??? and whatever that is, I didn't say it was crap...it was a way of referring to pcs...I know, I can't live without one, but it sometimes really takes the demon in me when it gets busted with no reason...it's my way of speech...sorry if that offended you man

pcs dont generaly get busted for no reazon altho alot of the time it seems like they are :P. and an opteron is a high class cpu (the last moddel was $2500A.U.) and they soo sweet.

omg I didn't know that...I'm gonna go to bed tonight even smarter...lol...and my pc got busted with no reason a week ago...I had to reinstall windows and I didn't do anything wrong to it...so, go figure, it does get busted with no reason

The host im on right now is so ****, but they have lots of data transfer pretty cheap so ive got little choice!!

I thought Athlon was prior to Turion???? Which is better? Why?

i think the turion is the lappy moddle 64bit proccesor where as the athlon is for destops makeing the athlon better cos most things in lappys are made to be smaller cooler and less power consuming

ill have to check after but i think thats the case

Nah, the last lappy was Athlon like my desktops. This new one is Turion.

also there are lappys with proccesors that arnt considered moblie like my friends lappy that had the fan chewd up had a p4 in it as opposed to a centrino. and now hes got a core 2 duo in his desktop with a 7900 gs overclocked to 7900 gt speeds and he gets an average of like 200 fps on CSS (Counter Strike Source) *sigh* so much better than my pc

Ok Oodanasai, Turion may be as you say for lappys only. Yep, I see your links.

Now, about this duo core stuff... I sat and watched QVC or HSN do a Gateway segment on probably what is now my lappy... just earlier this year. Anyhow, They had all these apps going... stuff like a racing game, Word, several net pages including the show via their site (LIVE), uhmmmm I dunno... photo album stuff, media stuff, music going... It was just awesome to see how much stuff could be done without losing any resources. I was amazed at that technology.

Of course I was on the other lappy trying to do all the things they were and was having no success. (laughs). I wish I would have contacted them to see what model Gateway they were feat that night. It could be the very one I own, who knows.

I am trying to figure this "clocking" stuff. I am so geeky but yet nerdy at the same time. I have created "The Blue Book of Death". The binder is blue and has all my PC learning life printed as far back as Windows with no numbers... laughs!! I think I have DOS stuff in there too. :p

Games - I agree w/Justin on that one. I did manage to play Bejeweled 2 and an feenin' for it as I type.

haha I have time for gaming...I'm on vacations lol...I play Unreal Tournament 2004 on my pc...that game is awesome...and why do ppl see on Counter Strike? I personally don't like that game, and everybody plays it...damn...anyway...my pc is average, so, my UT2004 runs perfectly :p

yer ut2k4 pwnz im hell better at that than css but none of my friends will really play ut with me cos theyll get beat (same with most RTS) so i only get css 2 play with them and im rather bad at that :(
