Ok, so it's not THE last post evvvver (much to somes dismay I am sure). It may be the last one I make on my Gateway laptop. (just bawls) Seems BB can't repair a MAJOR shutdown issue in what has been 3 trips between my local store, Illinois and Kentucky. (sighs big time). It shuts down for no apparent reason mainly when I am on the net. 2 heatsink replacements, one hard drive replaced and unit cleaned entirely - nothing is working. One damaged hinge by the delivery company has even seen the top lid/screen replaced as well. (bigger sigh) I loved this unit. So, I am on the way to take them up on their Lemon Policy and see what heppens next.
Keep ya posted.
(leaves just bawling some more)

Haha yeah my mate has a dodgy laptop like that, he can never use it in summer coz it just switches itself off all the time!
You scared me, i thought you were like serious that you were leaving, crickey!

You know I play all the time Justin. :D
Well, I was in Best Buy today... I was touching the keypads of all models of lappys they had for warmth to heat. I thought I was loosing it as mine was baking no roasting - not funny ok, but there were other problems too soooo. Anyhow, it seems quite a few are rather warm when just sitting as none were internet connected. Hmmmmm.... very interesting as this is/was my first owned lappy. I so wish I would have purchased a MAC when I had the $$. DRAT!!
BB does have a free upgrade to Vista if you purchase a lappy by a certain time. The one I want comes with Win Media Edition 2005, has a AMD dual core processor, double my old HD and 4 x's more memory. Mine was a AMD processor like the PC's I have. I am an PC/AMD junkie as you can tell. (sighs) After Thanksgiving, I will know what's what.

My apologies "ppl". :|
Justin
11-20-2006, 05:14 PM
Yeah the Media edition is pretty cool, a friend of mine has it on his laptop. But yeah buy one that will give you a free upgrade to visita, and buy now because once vista is out prices will go up.
PC sales are in a low patch at the moment becuase no-one wants to buy until vista comes out, so to get around this they've dropped prices and are now giving the option to upgrade to vista later - so if you leave it too late they'll increase prices again once vista is closer.

Justin - do you think it is better than XP - WME that is? How does your friend with the lap like the OS? I guess I better go readup on Vista b/c I have no clue. :p
BTW - it'll be a lemon swap out, not me actually buying it. I have to get a PSP for the new lappy at most, I hope. Maybe the difference between my old one and whatever new one I choose, which I hope is $0. The PSP is $200 roughly, who's complaining when I'll get a brand new system, ok? I'm kinda excited, seriously.

WME is basically winXP with some added features for people who plays lots of media - its pretty much the same really.
Vista is gonna be huge when it comes out, so you may aswell swap now and they'll send you the upgrade when its out..

12-15-2006, 05:17 PM
vista is good but its not that big (unles you mean hdd space :O 12gb) tho from what ive herd from friends u may need some more ram and the louder your fan is the beter it works(like mine it sounds like tha vacume cleaner all the time but you get used to it) (unless it sounds like its grinding at sumthing thats probably a bad noise)
Lady Di
12-16-2006, 12:14 PM
HAHAHAHAHAHAHA "unless it sounds like its grinding at sumething" AHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAAAA!!
So true Oondana Sai??? Wait, is that to words? Whadda they mean??
I have 160 gig on the lappy where it will go when it releses next year. It's a free rollup (I guess that means upgrade????) as is whatever the next OS will be. And if 2 gig of ram don't do it, it won't. Laughs!!
(leaves thinking, you GO LOUD FAN!!!) :p
oondanasai
12-16-2006, 06:18 PM
oondanasai is one word and what it means is a secret :)
and that grinding stufs seriouz my friend ignored it for like a month then his lappy started to randomly shut down turns out the cpu fan was chewing at something and that something disposed of 90% of the fan blades O.O
Justin
12-16-2006, 11:45 PM
2gigs of ram will easily run anything at the moment, Vista should run with 256mb i think but it'll be slow as all hell - so 2gigs should easily cover anything.

Ok, need some ideas/suggestions help here. Pinnacle PCTV Pro USB or Hauppauge PVR USB? I want to put some stuff on YouTube too. No lie, BUT... I also want to figure how to get the stuff I have on DVR to DVD's too. I do have a DVR/DVD Burner by Lite-On but sadly can not get it connected to the TV. Do not try to give me help here. You'd have to be here in person to see my OTHER ish. Laughs

Lady Di
12-18-2006, 06:30 PM
Haaaaahaaaaaaaaaa, "Crikey", funny word. Even funnier to hear.
Been accesorizing my lappy. I picked up, much to Justin & Roshan's dismay, a wireless mouse and also I have an ergo fan riser in route which I am anxious and curious to use.
oondanasai
12-19-2006, 01:06 AM
what brand of wireless mouse did you get?
Lady Di
12-19-2006, 08:11 AM
Courtesy of Best Buy b/c of the last lappy mess Oondanasai... I have a Microsoft wireless notebook optical mouse 4000 and some DVD-R's. My other mouse was wireless but the optical red light was in the USB plug as well. It made a dark room bright red with both pieces flaming (laughs). But that USB plug folded, only good thing about it, where ever it is?!?!? This newer mouse stores the USB plug underneath the mouse itself, neatoooooo.
I have an affliction to Microsoft stuff as both desktops each have wireless keyboards.
Shut up Roshan and Justin. (bawls up fists ready for a fight)
oondanasai
12-19-2006, 08:32 AM
eew michrosoft go go logitec
Lady Di
12-19-2006, 08:43 AM
I know MicroMess. But it was free so what can you say when there's no alternative to free. I have some Logitech stuff too - keyboards, meece and speakers. I am a no name person really - it depends on the style, price and features most. But I do have names that I like to use and will look for if I have that opton AND I had nothing bad go wrong with any other items in that family name.
Ohhhhhhhhhh, I have another gadget for the lappy as well. I picked up some Altec Lansing Laptop Speakers (XT1) when I got the last notebook. Now, the last lappy's speakers were located on the keyboard - top area. This unit has them right in front with the headphone and mic connectors. Still, the sound is not great but I like the placement - sorta. If I am working on it in my lap, then the speakers could get covered by my clothes or the cat if he decides he needs to be near loads of warmth, ya know. He squashes hismelf between me and the laptop therefore becoming an instant but furry arm rest, ahahahahahaaaaaaaaaaaaa!!
The XT1's blew me off the couch the first time I tried them. Expensive but intense lil things as far as volume and sound quality go. And I am a USB junkie at that, right up my alley they were.

12-19-2006, 09:07 AM
i have altecs lansing 221's they pump
urs look rather stylish do they come with a sub?
also the qaulity difference between logitech and michrosoft when i last baught a keyboard wash rather large (prolly worth not taking the free one back then) my dad has a new michrosoft keyboard and its not 2 bad still not as good as the one i had and that was a good 5 yrs ago (go logitech) so the qaulity difference could question the taking of the free product over the logitech one
btw my keyboard was the logitech elite keyboard and it came with a logitech mx 700 that was such a sweet setup back then
another good logitech product is the logitech logitech Z-5500D's now there good speakers
Lady Di
12-19-2006, 10:24 AM
Nope, just two speakers and a USB connection. They are cute looking but can get a wee loud.
What's mx 700? Microsoft product colors are black/silver and/or black/black. So the colors work for me a lil better too. I think my Logitech keyboard is cream in color and I used to mess it up all the time. Haven't bought a new Logitech anything in quite some time. Wait speakers but then I replaced them with Altec Lansings too. I don't know the model speakers I have right now on the AL's get back to ya. I do know both sets are each desktop PC.
Quality does play a big part to style, price and features too, oh yeah. But, at the time, free worked b/c I had no spare $$ to invest in anything else. Plus, I wanted to use that GC before I forgot I had it. :p
oondanasai
12-19-2006, 06:25 PM
an mx 700 is a logitech product the best mouse i ever owned
Justin
12-19-2006, 06:53 PM
Yeah logitech are awesome!
oondanasai
12-19-2006, 06:57 PM
see look how smart justin is he knos the qaulity of both macs and logitech (there both at opposite ends of the scale)
Lady Di
12-19-2006, 10:28 PM
Oh just ya'll hush as I AM NOT rushing this free MicroMess stuff back annnnnnytime soon. (laughs) I will look into Logitech when this stuff breaks. No time soon me hope. :p
oondanasai
12-19-2006, 10:32 PM
but if you buy logitech stuf you can have the crappy michrosoft stuff for a backup
Lady Di
12-19-2006, 10:43 PM
AAHAHAHAHAHAAAAAAAAAAAAA, you are tooo funny. I am not one of those breakers. If it is not broke yet, me not try to fix it YET. Capeesh? Heeheheeeeeeeeee!!
Wait till they break and then I'll report back kiddo! I am going to check that mousey of yours.
oondanasai
12-19-2006, 10:45 PM
well i think you may not be able to fix a michrosoft keyboard because nomatter what you do its still michrosoft
Lady Di
12-19-2006, 10:49 PM
I just checked your mx 700. Looks sweet. Someone reviewed it and said it is right handed only?!?!? Since when are mouse hand specific? You can always change it in the mouse properties I thought?!?!? I did.
oondanasai
12-19-2006, 10:55 PM
hehe no its spesificaly molded to suit the right hand tho i do beleve that there was a left handed moddle i was ok with the right handed one cos i use my right hand for the mouse another good thing about it is the bateries make a rather nice feeling central gravity tho makeing it heavyer it was easyer to moove so smooth so so smooth
Lady Di
12-19-2006, 10:58 PM
I thought the molded meece were like over. Wow, learn something new. Mine is not molded nor is my Kensingtons. They are track ball mouse and I love them b/c I have tendonitis badly.
oondanasai
12-19-2006, 11:07 PM
most top of the range mice in the logitech range are hand molded for gaming comfort XD
if your thinking of buying a new mouse id recomend the logitech G7
they stoped making the mx 700's because of a desighn flaw in the charger (sheds a tear) after a few years for some reason it just stoped charging (i beleve this also happend to the mx 1000 even tho they chainged the desighn of the charger makeing it much uglyer) the G7 has like some liion bateries (it comes with 2) that charg out of the mouse it also comes with a usb (dongle or toggle or sumthing) that plugs in lappy and stuf (takes up less space than the charger but it still plugs in to the charger aswell)
oondanasai

Oondanasai - those are really waaaay over the top for me. Thye have too much going on with them. Since I don't game, then my lil 4000 is just fine, when I use it. (as I peep around to see just where it is....) Ahhhhhh, on the floor almost under the bed. Damn good place for it'd I say. YOU? :p
Anyhow, I am really a no frills, plain ole basic girl when it comes to some things. Meece are one of them. My keyboards have all that internet ready ish and I never use'em. Sad, I know.
oondanasai
12-20-2006, 03:05 PM
i never use those internet buttons on the kb ether but on the mice as you may have noticed is a back and forward button now there usefull also you can notice the quality from a standard generic mouse to something like a mx 700
TheBerserker
12-20-2006, 06:14 PM
one question:
I know that the plural of mouse(the animal) is mice...but what's the plural of mouse (the device)...the same, mice? or just mouses?
oondanasai
12-20-2006, 10:22 PM
um i think its mice but im not shure
Lady Di
12-21-2006, 01:35 AM
I am sure those MICE are very cool but just a lil much for me. I'll stick to mah generics.
Yes Daniel, mice is the plural for mouse. Me using meece was me being sarcastic, as usual.
oondanasai
12-21-2006, 02:08 AM
i thaught you where just really tierd or sumthing generic mice may do the job but the better mice do the job and then some comfortably and stylishly (looks at his generic mouse and wishes he had the money for a better one)

Well, I burnt up the power supply and it's fan on my main PC. FedEx did bring my new one, so off to instal it. Grrrrrrrrrrrrr..........
On another badish note, the lappy is still fine sorta... I think you jinxed it b/c every time I put a CD in that requires to use the info from the CD, there's this weird sound. I plan to CALL tech support and play loud noise b/c they reportedly could not find anything wrong when I sent it in. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.........

Then upgraded it when i got a new Mother board...
Lady Di
01-04-2007, 11:30 AM
Well, I didn't tell ALL the story guys. The fan started getting very loud. So I kinda sorta stuck.... anyhoooooooooooooooooow, I came back and PC was dead. New power supply plus fan installed and whallah - all is well. ;)
BTW - about the lappy, did I mention I broke the right '{' and '[' key?!?!? I am so hard on these things.

Sorry Oondanasai, HP already called in their markers and their $$. Motherboard is crappy for whatever reason. I am thinking of installing FireFox in the lappy. I am just trying to decide for site purposes will it work for me.
I thought it would clear up problems on the HP PC and that's why I installed it there. Seems it neither helped nor hurt. It was f'ed either way.
